[Problem] To provide a straddle type vehicle provided with a control unit that can improve the riding comfort of a rider and can control the speed change of a continuously variable transmission electronically. [Means for Resolution] A straddle type vehicle 1 includes: a driving source (engine) 100 having an output controlled according to an accelerator operating part operated by a rider; a continuously variable transmission 11 connected to the engine 100; and a control unit 120 for controlling the continuously variable transmission electronically. The control unit 120 is characterized by : performing the control of shifting to a kick down mode (50) of shifting a speed change ratio to a lower side than a speed change ratio at the time of a normal mode (60) according to a kick down switch 25 provided separately from an accelerator operating part and operated (42) by the rider; detecting the state of the straddle type vehicle 1 by a sensor 27; issuing a kick down release command according to the state; and performing the control of releasing the kick down mode and returning the kick down mode to the normal mode (60).
