The water pre-warming device includes a heat exchanger 4 having first and second inlets, wherein the first inlet is suitable for receiving heated fluid from a central heating system and includes a shut-off valve 10, and the second inlet, in use, receives mains water 1. The device may include respective first and second outlets, the first outlet connecting to a return conduit 5b that returns water to the central heating system and the second outlet connecting to an appliance 20, such as a shower. The second inlet may include a bypass valve 2 and bypass conduit 3. The device may include a means of measuring the temperature of mains water to determine whether the temperature falls below a pre-determined value. The shut-off and bypass valves may be electrically actuated by the appliance. The device may prevent heated fluid and/or mains water from entering the heat exchanger based upon the temperature of the mains water and whether or not the appliance is in use. A method of preheating mains water and a further water pre-warming device having a bypass valve on the second inlet but no shut-off valve on the first inlet are also claimed. |
