957,181. Haymaking machines. PATENT CONCERN N.V. Aug. 9, 1960 [Aug. 25, 1959], No. 27579/60. Heading A1F. A haymaking machine, of the kind having oblique rake-bars 24 and being coupled to a tractor 71 at its front end, comprises a frame having one or more beams 1, 2 which extend parallel to the rake-bars at a level beneath the highest point of their travel, the machine having two working positons corresponding to swath-turning and tedding respectively, in one of which the beams 1, 2 extend to the right and in the other they extend to the left, opposite sides of the rake-bars encountering the crop in the two positions. As shown in Fig. 1, the main frame consists of a pivoted parallelogram 1, 2, 4, 8, 9, the rear side comprising two beams 8, 9 secured to a horizontal bearing 20 for the rear spider 22 and being mounted on an adjustable caster 103. The front side includes two beams 3, 4 carrying a sector-shaped plate 12 to which the beam 1 is pivoted and to which it can be locked by a pin 15 entering selected holes 13. The beam 3 has forwardly-extending lugs, such as 74, which connect it with a structure 65, 66 carried by the tractor hitch-links 70, 73, the connection at one end being pivotal and at the other being resiliently yieldable vertically (Fig. 4, not shown). The connection 89 to the upper hitch-link 73 is resiliently telescopically yieldable. The front spider 18 is driven by a chain 60 from a shaft 62 coupled to the tractor. Each spider has a ring of bearings 34 (Fig. 3) to which the rake-bars are universally-jointed at 35, 36. The bars 24 are of inverted-T section and the tines 43 (Fig. 7) pass through holes in one horizontal web 40 and have a hairpin-part 44, 45 which is secured to the vertical web 39. Stripping members 55, comprising U-shaped wires pivotally received in holes in the longitudinal beams 1, 2, hang beneath the beams to co-operate with the tines 43. In a modification (Figs. 10, 12) a single longitudinal beam 120 is mounted between the centres of the front and rear spiders 111, 108, the front spider (Fig. 12) comprising a fixed central boss 113 with an annular pulley 111 around it, the pulley having lugs 116 carrying the bearings 117 for the rake-bars 107. The beam 120 is pivoted at 121 to a short beam 114 integral with the boss 113 and can be fixed in an adjusted angular position by a spring-loaded bolt 123 engaging holes in an arcuate strip 125 fixed to the beam 114 and boss 113. In this modification the tractor may carry a mid-mounted mowerbar 138. In a further modification (Fig. 13) the front spider 111 is bodily movable laterally relative to the tractor by being mounted on an arm 140 swingable about a horizontal pivot on the part 120 secured to the tractor and lockable by a catch 141 engaging alternative stops 142, 143. Specifications 957,182, 957,183 and 957,184 are referred to. |
