PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical forging press which can efficiently perform the mass production and trial production of forged products by one mechanical forging press. SOLUTION: The rotation of a flywheel 8 rotationally driven by a main motor 6 and the rotation of a separately rotationally driven servo motor 10 are made to transmittable to a crankshaft 4, either rotation of the flywheel 8 or servo motor 10 is transmitted to the crankshaft 4 to operate a slide 1 in an ascending/descending manner, the other rotational driving which does not transmit rotation to the crankshaft 4 is stopped, and a forging operation is performed. In this way, upon mass production, rotation is transmitted from the flywheel 8 to the crankshaft 4, and forging is efficiently performed at a prescribed forging speed, and upon trial production, rotation is transmitted from the servo motor 10 to the crankshaft 4, and the optimum forging speed can be easily selected in a short period of time, thus the mass production and trial production of forged products can be efficiently performed by one forging press.
