<p>Disclosed is a liquid crystal display with an excellent display performance capable of stabilizing the orientation of liquid crystal molecules in a uniform state, capable of preventing previous display states from remaining at display switching, i.e., so-called afterimage phenomenon, capable of preventing grainy display, and also capable of supporting miniaturized picture elements. Specifically disclosed is a liquid crystal display which comprises a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal layer sealed between the pair of substrates. The liquid crystal layer contains liquid crystal molecules oriented in a direction perpendicular to surfaces of the substrates when no voltage is applied. At least one of the pair of substrates has picture element electrodes, gate bus lines, and source bus lines. Each of the picture element electrodes includes a slit that is bent so that a part thereof extends along the gate bus lines.</p> |
