PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of suppressing occurrence of alignment failure caused by peeling of a spacer. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device 100 includes a thin film transistor (TFT) substrate 5 and a color filter (CF) substrate 20 provided facing each other by holding a liquid crystal layer 30, and a main columnar spacer 14 and a sub-pillar spacer 25, having different functions. Moreover, the main pillar spacer 14 is formed on a surface in z2 direction of the TFT substrate, and the sub-pillar spacer 25 is formed on a surface in z1 direction of the CF substrate.
