PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a spark plug which prevents damage on an electrode welding rod without reducing productivity and which attains stable production of the spark plug. SOLUTION: The spark plug 1 has a ground electrode 27, and a noble metal chip 32 joined to the pointed head of the ground electrode 27. In a connection process of joining the noble metal chip 32 on the ground electrode 27, upon using a welding device 41 having a welding electrode rod 46 prepared by brazing a pointed head metal section 48 made from a noble metal material with a melting point of 2,000°C or more at one end of a rod-shaped body 47 including copper or silver and a holding tool 43 for holding the welding electrode rod 46, the noble metal chip 32 is resistance-welded on the ground electrode 27 after arranging the noble metal chip 32 on the pointed head of the ground electrode 27, by conducting electricity through the noble metal chip 32 while pressing it with the welding electrode rod 46.
