The terminal (2) has two clamping jaws (4a, 4b) partially enclosing a battery pole. A connecting piece (6) is arranged at the clamping jaws. A spacer element (12) is engaged between the clamping jaws, and provides radial spreading of the clamping jaws and a tensioning element (10) i.e. spring. The spacer element is removed such that the clamping jaws and the tensioning element are radially narrowed. The clamping jaws include radial through holes that extend axially along a part of the clamping jaws. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a battery pole terminal at a battery pole.
