WATER-ABSORBING RESIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorber which is capable of achieving a thin-thickness without causing a problem under actual use conditions; and a water-absorbing resin suitable for use in absorbent articles.

SOLUTION: The water-absorbing resin is formed by the hydrophobic treatment of a polymer of an unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or an unsaturated carboxylate with a hydrophobic material. The combination of such the water-absorbing resin with a hydrophilic fiber makes an absorber. The absorber has a content of a water-absorbing resin of not less than 30 wt.% and less than 100 wt.% relative to the whole weight of the absorber. This absorber formes an absorbent article by being held between a liquid-permeable sheet and an liquid-unpermeable sheet. Preferably, a hydrophobic treatment of the water-absorbing resin is performed and additionally surface crosslinking thereof is performed.
