PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coal ash composition also having anion adsorbing ability and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: Iron type hydrated coal ash HFAFe as the coal ash composition has an interlinked structure of Si-O-Fe-OH on a surface of coal ash. The iron type hydrated coal ash is produced through a first step of producing hydrated coal ash HFA having a silanol group on its surface by subcritical water treatment of raw coal ash FA; and a second step of producing iron type hydrated coal ash having an interlinked structure of Si-O-Fe-OH on its surface by adding an Fe-containing metal solution to the hydrated coal ash. In the first step, a mixture of the raw coal ash FA and water W is heated at a temperature of≥150°C for≥60 min. In the second step, an aqueous iron chloride solution having concentration of 0.05-0.1 M is prepared and the aqueous iron chloride solution is added to the hydrated coal ash HFA while adjusting the pH of the solution to 3-4 by adding an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution.
