PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suture anchor which effectively engages a suture into a bone bore and acts satisfactorily and equally on bones differed in density of a wide range extending from a hard compact bone to a soft less compact bone, and an insertion device for implanting the suture anchor. SOLUTION: The insertion device includes a rigid shaft having both opposed ends, and a tip portion provided at one end of the shaft. The tip portion is formed of a shape memory material, and has a proximal end operably engaged with the shaft and a distal end constituted to engage with a noncircular insert hole formed in the wedge type suture anchor. The distal end of the tip portion has a noncircular section corresponding to a section of the noncircular insert hole, and for engaging the distal end of the tip portion with the insert hole, the rotation of the wedge type suture anchor around the axis of the tip portion is minimized as much as possible.
