The tool (1) has a tool head (2) arranged at a shaft (4) and comprising a knurl miller (3). A coolant distributor (7) is arranged at a side surface (8), which is turned towards the knurl miller, of the shaft. Height of the coolant distributor is smaller than a normal distance (32) between a side surface (8) of the shaft and an imaginary plane (33) parallel to the side surface of the shaft, where the plane cuts the knurl miller. The tool head is movably supported transverse to a longitudinal axis (5) of the shaft. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a knurl on a cylindrical workpiece by a knurl milling tool.
