The device has an object holder (2) resembling as a computer mouse, and hand grip or handle (1) movably mounted with a body stop. The object holder is mounted by a low pressure that is autonomically and uprightly maintained by the device that is attached in or on the handle. A particular bearing surface for the body stop is arranged in same level with a grinding surface. The body stop is struck on the grinding surface during a grinding process. A discontinued measurement for thickness (8) of sample (4) is directly obtained on a sample side of the object holder.
