An inflatable airbag suitable for use as a safety device in a motor vehicle is proposed. The airbag is formed from two panels (1, 2) of flexible sheet material such as woven fabric or plastic film, the panels each having a respective peripheral edge (3, 4) and being interconnected by a seam (22) formed between said peripheral edges. The seam comprises a tape (19) bonded to each said panel in the region of said peripheral edges (3, 4), and the material of said two panels is fused together (15) along said peripheral edges (3, 4). A method of producing the airbag is also disclosed.
