A filling valve assembly 70 for a gas-fuelled lighter comprises a housing 72 threaded into a flange 32 of the fuel reservoir 30, the upper portion receiving a spark-wheel assembly and the lower part having a fill port 76 and being formed with an annular valve seat 77 against which is urged a valve member 86 by a spring 84 housed in a sleeve 80, the valve member having a lower part of cruciform section to allow flow of fuel past the valve when it is moved from its seat by the nozzle part of a filling container. The burner valve assembly 40 is mounted in a flange 34 of reservoir 30 and includes an anvil 46 supporting a wick 48 and a threadably mounted burner stem 50 which can be rotated by a wheel 54 to vary its pressure on the wick to regulate the flow of gas. A rubber seal 58 is pressed to close an orifice 56 by a pin 60 which is engaged by a spring-biased button 26 when the lighter cap 16 is closed. In a modification, Fig. 12, the valve member 186 is in the form of a polygonal plate with flats to allow flow of fuel past it.</p> |
