Grease thickeners for mineral oil and silicone base greases have the formulae <FORM:1087329/C4-C5/1> (I) <FORM:1087329/C4-C5/2> (II) wherein R is H, alkyl or aryl, X is C=O, CHOH or CH2, and the ring-substituents in II are in the 3,4-positions.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of formulae <FORM:1087329/C2/1> <FORM:1087329/C2/2> <FORM:1087329/C2/3> wherein R is H, alkyl or aryl, X is C = O, CHOH or CH2, and the ring-substituents in II are in the 3,4 positions. The compounds may be made by reacting the corresponding tetracarboxylic acid, or its anhydride with R2NH to give the salt or diamide dicarboxylic acid, either of which may be heated to give the diimide, which reacts with further R2NH to give the tetraamide. |
