<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector easily suppressing irregularity in a focus state caused by thermal expansion of a projection optical system and its peripheral member, and also to provide a control method of the projector. <P>SOLUTION: When an internal temperature of the projector 1 rises because of lighting of a light source device 11, and a projection lens 13 and its peripheral member are thermally expanded, focus deviation is generated and an image is blurred. That means, the focus state adjusted by a user gets irregular. Then the projector 1 has a focus correction function for correcting the focus state in accordance with temperature of the projection lens 13 in order to suppress the focus deviation associated with the temperature rise. When the focus correction function corrects the focus state, a correction table RT stored in a storage part 21 is used. The correction table RT is formed so that a lens temperature and a correction amount correspond to each other.
