<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a core holding unit which can simplify a structure. <P>SOLUTION: In an inside piece 11 of the core holding unit 10 applied to the writing utensil, a pawl piece 23 which is bent inward as a part of the inside piece 11 is formed so that its tip is opposed to the tip of a core holding part 12, and a spiral spring 13 is retained by the tip of the pawl piece 23 and the tip of the core holding part 12. On the outer surface of the pawl piece 23, a protrusion 23b contacting with the inner wall surface of a shaft cylinder 2 is formed.
