The operating station (1), for ophthalmic surgery, has a microscope (2) positioned over the prone patient. Foot pedals (6,7) at a foot board (5) are linked through a cable tunnel (8) to the microscope held on a tower (4) by an arm with vertical positioning. One foot pedal gives the microscope a coarse positioning and the other foot pedal gives the fine adjustment. The tower can be fitted with other functions e.g. a phacoemulsification unit, a victretomy unit, a coagulation laser, an endoilluminator and a monitor (11) all with their own foot pedal controls.
