摘要 <p>Provided is a passenger restraint device for vehicles wherein the period from when the motor begins actuating to when the seatbelts actually begin to be reeled onto the spindle is shortened, thereby making it possible to swiftly protect passengers. A clutch mechanism (20) which connects or disconnects an electric actuator (55) with/from a spindle (11), and a power transmitting mechanism (50) with which it is possible to transmit the power of the electric actuator (55) to the clutch mechanism (20) are provided. The power transmitting mechanism (50) is provided with a low reduction transmission path which reduces the rotation of the electric actuator (55) at a low reduction ratio, a high reduction transmission path which reduces the rotation of the electric actuator (55) at a high reduction ratio, and a switching means (80). When a possibility of collision is detected, the electric actuator (55) is put into positive rotation and the rotation of the electric actuator (55) is transmitted to the clutch mechanism (20) at a high speed and low torque by means of the low reduction transmission path at least until the clutch mechanism (20) finishes connecting. Then, the power transmitting mechanism (50) is switched to the high reduction transmission path and the rotation of the electric actuator (55) is transmitted to the clutch mechanism (20) at a low speed and high torque, thereby reeling the seatbelt (13) to the spindle (11).</p>
