The optical filter unit (8) has a compensation filter (9), a detector and an evaluation unit (7). A compensation output (15) and two balanced monitor outputs (16,17) are provided for monitoring the signal quality and filter settings. A transmission line signal (18) spans on the input side of three different delay paths of the compensation filter. The information for monitoring coordination of the compensation filter is realized independently by control unit (24).
