Scintillation material with an oxygen content of a maximum of 2.5 parts per million, comprises a halo compound (I) or (II) present in an amount of 10 parts per million. The scintillation material is produced by optionally mixing (I) with at least one of a dopant D1, adding at least one carbon-containing compound, heating the mixture to the melting point and cooling the melt to obtain a single crystal or polycrystalline structure by known methods. Scintillation material with an oxygen content of a maximum of 2.5 parts per million, comprises a halo compound of formula (Ln1X 3) (I) or (Ln1X 3:D1) (II) present in an amount of 10 parts per million. The scintillation material is produced by optionally mixing (I) with at least one of the dopant D1, adding at least one carbon-containing compound, heating the mixture to the melting point and cooling the melt to obtain a single crystal or polycrystalline structure by known methods. Ln1 : Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb or Lu; X : F, Cl, Br or I; and D1 : cationic dopant comprising one of Y, Zr, Hf, Pd or Bi. An independent claim is also included for producing the scintillation material by the above mentioned method.
|
