1,161,934. Pressure-sensitive transfer paper. MEAD CORP. 13 July, 1967 [13 July, 1966], No. 32227/67. Heading D2B. Smudge-resistant pressure-senstive transfer paper is manufactured by coating a paper web with an aqueous mixture of pressure-rupturable capsules containing oily marking substances, a binder such as starch and smudge resistant material in the form of coarse solids such as cellulose fibres Before the web and coating are dried as a whole, the water is evaporated from an inside layer of the coating, away from its surface and next to the web/coating interface by exposing the uncoated side of the web to drying currents of warm air or to contact with heated drums, and/or by heating either or both sides of the web with radiant and/or high frequency dielectric heat. This prevents migration of the binder towards the surface of the coating. Minor amounts of surfactants and/or pH modifiers such as soda ash may be included in the coating composition. |
