A method and apparatus for tobacco smoke filter production wherein a train (2) of tobacco smoke filtering material, whilst continuously advanced longitudinally, is gathered towards rod shape and then shaped to and secured in rod form (57), and wherein there is discontinuous pneumatic injection of particulate additive (6) through an injector conduit (10) laterally into the gathering material to form separate additive pockets (14) embedded in and spaced along the continuously produced rod (57).
