The fiber (200) has a casing (220) made of an inorganic material e.g. aluminum, titanium and chromium, where the casing serves as an adhesion layer for a boundary surface between a surface of the fiber and the casing. The fiber consists of glass and exhibits a fiber bragg grating. An adhesion promotion formed between the surface of the fiber and the inorganic casing is formed by a molecular metallic oxide connection. The casing exhibits a thickness within the range of 1 nanometer to 100 nanometers. An adhesive layer (230) is provided for attachment of the fiber at a substrate (240). An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an optical fiber.
