PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the reliability of equipment by preventing sudden machine down by measuring a transfer time of a hard disk, detecting a sign of the failure of the hard disk based on the measured transfer time, and displaying the warning of the failure or avoiding the use of the failure portion. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus having the hard disk includes: a reading part to read data from a plurality of data areas of the hard disk for each data area; a measuring part to measure the data transfer time for each of the data areas when reading the data by the reading part; a comparison part to compare a first data transfer time measured by the measuring part with a second data transfer time measured by the measuring part; a determination part to determine whether it is predicted that the failure will occur in the hard disk based on the comparison result; and a processing part to perform predetermined processing corresponding to the occurrence of the failure when the prediction of the failure occurrence in the hard disk is determined.
