PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission advantageous in terms of gear efficiency, gear noise, durability reliability, and cost while achieving forward eight speeds by three planetary gears and six friction elements, and improving the efficiency of the transmission of drive energy by minimizing a friction loss. SOLUTION: The automatic transmission is equipped with: a first planetary gear PG1 by double pinions; and a second planetary gear PG2 and a third planetary gear PG3 by single pinions, an input shaft IN is always connected to a sun gear S2, an output shaft OUT is always connected to a ring gear R3, a ring gear R1 is always connected to a carrier PC3 to constitute a rotation member M1, and a ring gear R2 is always connected to a sun gear S3 to constitute a rotation member M2. At least a forward eight-speed and back one-speed transmission are obtained by combination of simultaneous fastening of three frictional elements out of six friction elements constituted of a first clutch C1, a second clutch C2, a third clutch C3, a fourth clutch C4, a first brake B1, and a second brake B2.
