<p>Cubic boron nitride, diamond, or a mixt. of the two are distributed in a matrix contg. a refractory substance plus a matl. capable of dissolving the abrasive particles to a limited extent; the amt. of abrasive particles being pref. 80-90 vol. %. The two constituents of the matrix pref. react to form a hard prod. The refractory substance is pref. a boride, nitride or silicide and the matl. for limited soln. of the abrasives can be a metal or alloy, e.g. Al. The finished matl. has outstanding wear-resistance, and is made by compacting at high temp. using very high press.</p> |
