PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus can unfailingly detecting that an original document cover has been closed and preventing deterioration in a read image such as focus blur. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes: a closely attached image read part for reading an image; an original document cover member having a detection mark on the side opposite to the image read part and formed openably closably to the image read part; an image data generation part for causing the image read part to read the detection mark and generate image data from the read information of the detection mark; and an opening and closing parameter calculation part for calculating an opening and closing parameter indicating the opening and closing state of the original document cover with respect to the image read part from the image data generated by the image data generation part.
