PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly detect the surface temperature of the entire heat roller by using temperature detecting elements, the number of which is smaller than that of heaters, in the fixing device that has the plurality of heaters in the heat roller. SOLUTION: The fixing device includes: the heat roller; a pressure means for fixing a toner image to paper in cooperation with the heat roller; and the temperature detecting elements for detecting the surface temperature of the heat roller. In the fixing device, the heat roller incorporates at least the three heaters in the state where they are not rotatable. Each of the heaters is disposed so that the other heaters may not be located on line connecting the heater and the corresponding temperature detecting element. Each of the temperature detecting elements is located in the position where the heat generating portions of two of the heaters overlap in the lengthwise direction of the heat roller. Alternatively, if the heat generating portions of two of the heaters do not overlap, each of the temperature detecting elements is disposed on the boundary between the heat generating portions of the two heaters.
