The drive system (1) has a motor (10) converting energy from petrol into mechanical energy, and a hydraulic pump (30) arranged on the motor. A hydraulic motor (50) forwards originating force to a gear drive (60) that includes an automatic transmission. The gear drive includes a torque converter and a planetary gear train, and the mechanical energy is utilized for driving a vehicle and is originated on the hydraulic motor. A hydraulic control system (40) with a throttle pedal is arranged between the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic motor, and is designed to regulate hydraulic pressure. An independent claim is also included for a method for driving a vehicle.
