Scheduling MBMS transmissions in subframes of radio frames

A method for scheduling multimedia broadcast and multicast service (MBMS) transmissions in subframes of radio frames. Different MBMS user data is received for broadcasting to wireless communication units. During a first scheduling period, the different MBMS user data is scheduled for broadcasting in respective subframes within a first radio frame and, during a second scheduling period, the different MBMS user data is scheduled in a different order in respective subframes within a second radio frame. The varied subframe order is based on the MBMS service to be broadcast. The invention seeks to use service hopping to minimise conflicts between reception of MBMS data and measurement gaps by scheduling to minimise overlap between subframes used to broadcast MBMS data and subframes allocated to a UE for performing measurements.
