PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote control system capable of controlling a device to be remotely controlled on a safer side based on a predetermined control method for the device, even if failures occur in a remote supervisory control system. SOLUTION: The remote control system 10 includes: a remote control unit 12 for sending a control command to operate a device 20 to be remotely controlled; a remote controller 14 for converting the sent control command into a control signal and transmitting the control signal to a receiving side via an optical fiber 16; and a remote controller 18, connected to the remote controller 14, for receiving the sent control signal and transmitting it to the device 20. An automatic device controller 30 is connected to the remote controller 18, and stores a control method for the device 20. In addition, a failure detector 32 for detecting failures at the remote control system 10 is provided at the automatic device controller 30. When the failure detector 32 detects failures, the automatic device controller 30 transmits the stored control signal for the device 20 to the device 20 to cause the device 20 to execute operation, in place of the remote control unit 12.
