<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more accurately keep the clearance constant between a friction material and a material subjected to friction, to perform a precise release control. <P>SOLUTION: During the release control, a timing is detected when the braking force generated by an EPB (Electric Parking Brake) 2 becomes zero based on the variation of motor current IMOTOR, and a second release control time KTR2 from the time when the brake force becomes zero to the time when the motor driving is stopped is set in accordance with the amplitude of the motor current IMOTOR at the time when the brake force becomes zero. This enables setting the second release driving time KTR2 corresponding to the variance of the motor load caused by temperature and the like. Therefore the clearance can be kept constant between a brake pad and a brake disk corresponding to the motor load.
