Disclosed herein is a process for preparing halogenalkylnitrates of formula (I), wherein substituent's are as disclosed in the specification. Also disclosed is a solution comprising a compound of formula (I) and selected solvents as defined in the specification, characterised in that the compound of formula (I) is present in a concentration not higher than 20% by weight.
