1,161,557. Measuring the twist of a helically stranded cord. ALGEMENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N.V. 9 Aug., 1966 [13 Aug., 1965], No. 35671/66. Heading G4H. The twist in a moving length of helically stranded cord is determined by passing the cord 1, Fig. 1, around a disc 2 and using a counting device to count the cord humps that pass a counting station whilst the disc 2 rotates through a predetermined angle. The counting device may be a photo-cell 8, Fig. 3, receiving light from a source 16 via a mirror 17 and a stop 18. In Fig. 3, the light path between mirror 17 and photo-cell 8 is preferably directed on the helix formed between the strands of the cord to obtain the largest possible variation in the signal from the photo-cell 8. The output from the cell 8 passes to an amplifier 9 and then to a counter 10. The period during which the counter 10 is permitted to operate is that period during which a further photo-cell 7 receives light from the source 16 via an aperture 6 in the disc 2. The size of the aperture 6 may be varied. The counting device may alternatively be pneumatic means. |
