摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for generating a light beam, wherein a coherent light beam having circular intensity distribution and axially symmetric polarization distribution can be obtained. SOLUTION: An axially symmetrically polarized beam having the circular intensity distribution is generated by using a double-refractive substance having a nonlinear optical effect. The axially symmetrically polarized beam can be a continuous wave or a pulsed wave and can have a single vertical or horizontal mode or a plurality of vertical or horizontal modes. The double-refractive can be a substance or a plurality substances, and the double-refractive substance can be placed either on the inside or outside of a laser resonator. The axially symmetrically polarized beam can have the same phase with respect to the azimuth direction or have such phase distribution that the phase thereof is reversed twice or more times with respect to the azimuthal direction.
