PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a classifier which can improve a classification precision and further, can suppress equipment costs. SOLUTION: The classifier 1 has a column-shaped classifying chamber 11, and an inlet pipe 21 and an outlet pipe 22 communicating with the inside of the classifying chamber 11, and has a constitution that a gas G1 containing powders is tangential-flowed into the classifying chamber 11 through the inlet pipe 21, and descended and swirled along the outer peripheral part, and a gas G2 going up the center in the classifying chamber 11 is discharged through the outlet pipe 22. The bottom face 11b of the classifying chamber 11 is closed, and a swirling means 30 exerting swirling force on the gas G1 in the classifying chamber 11 is provided on the bottom face 11b. A slit 40 extending in a vertical direction is formed on the inner peripheral surface 11a of the classifying chamber 11, and the gas G1 containing the powders swirling along the outer peripheral part in the classifying chamber 11 is discharged through the slit 40.
