[Also in Groups XVIII and XXVIII] A protective covering for a cable comprises a layer of rubber embodying one or more, but not all, of the essential self-vulcanizing ingredients including an ultra-rapid accelerator, which is arranged next to a bituminous or waxy layer embodying the other substances necessary to complete the vulcanization of the rubber. The bituminous or waxy material may contain sulphur, all the other vulcanizing ingredients being incorporated in the rubber, which may be applied to the cable as a helically lapped tape. |
