A filter (4) for a smoking article has a clove segment (14)(24) comprising clove particles. The filter (4) preferably comprises a mouth end segment (22) downstream of the clove segment (24). The filter (4) may also comprise a rod end segment (32) comprising filtration material upstream of the clove segment (24). Preferably, one or both of the mouth end segment (22) and the rod end segment (32) comprises at least one liquid flavourant. The rod end segment (32) may include a sorbent.
