<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary kiln suppressing mixing of metallic powder in a battery material. <P>SOLUTION: The rotary kiln 1 includes a cylindrical retort 5 rotated around the axis and having a heat treatment chamber 52 on the radial inner side, and manufactures the battery material B by applying heat treatment to a treated object A in the heat treatment chamber 52. The retort 5 is made of a carbon material.
