The invention relates to an operating method for an image display device (1), particularly for a digital LED projector, having a plurality of varicolored light sources (2, 3, 4) generating an illuminating signal by mixing colors, wherein the operating method comprises the following steps: a) actuating the individual light sources (2, 3, 4) of the image display device (1) with prescribed color values for generating a particular color of the illuminating signal; b) checking at least one of the varicolored light sources (2, 3, 4) for functional error; c) adapting the prescribed color value of at least one error-free light source when a functional error of one of the light sources (2, 3, 4) is detected; d) actuating the individual light sources (2, 3, 4) with the adapted color values for compensating for the detected functional error.
