<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily set the reference of washing liquid state detection without changing the structure of a water supply route or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The washing machine includes a washing liquid state detection means 10 for detecting the state of washing liquid, a softener housing container 17 for supplying softener, and a control means 12 for controlling water supply, washing and rinsing operations corresponding to the output value of the washing liquid state detection means 10. The control means 12 acquires the initial value of the washing liquid state detection means 10 when only water is supplied during the rinsing operation, and the water is supplied through the softener housing container 17 to the inside of an outer tub 2, the inside of an inner tub 3 and the washing liquid state detection means 10 thereafter.
