PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator facility in which the down-time for renewal from a hydraulic elevator to a rope-type elevator is the minimum and existing equipment is reused as much as possible, and a method of renewing the elevator facility. SOLUTION: A pair of counter guide rails 11 are erected at a predetermined interval in the fore-and-aft direction within a side space of a car 2 in a hoistway 1, and a counter weight 14 is provided in the interval. A flat L-shaped machine bed 12 which does not interrupt a vertical projection cross section of the car is attached to an upper portion of the counter guide rail 11 and a plunger guide rail 6. A hoist 13 and deflector sheaves 15a, 15b are attached to the machine bed 12. Further, a middle portion of a rope for connecting the machine bed 12 and a rope hitch 2a of the car 2 is wrapped around counter sheaves 14a, 14b, a drive sheave of the hoist 13, and the deflector sheaves 15a, 15b.
