The invention relates to a system for recovering part of the energy lost through the exhaust gases of four-stroke internal-combustion engines. The approach comprises taking a portion of the gases produced by combustion from one cylinder which is in the second half of the expansion phase thereof and guiding said gases towards another cylinder which is in the compression phase. The transfer of gases in expansion takes place due to the pressure of the gases and is directed and controlled by pipes controlled by valves located at the exit of the cylinder combustion chambers. According to the choice of engine design, the gas transfer can be carried out in a single stage or can be deferred by remaining for a short time in the pipes, which then act as provisional storage points. The gases produced at the end of the expansion phase provide thermal energy, kinetic energy and quantities of air that therefore make it possible to increase the pressure and temperature levels of the mixtures initially found in the receiver cylinder. Said contribution improves the performance of the engine cycle. The adjustments of the gas transfer operation between different cylinders are calculated so as to optimise the increased performance of the next combustion considering the loss of pressure at the end of the expansion of the first cylinder. |
