<p>1,074,288. Hand grenades. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. Dec. 18, 1963 [Dec. 18, 1962], No. 50072/63. Heading F3A. A hand grenade has two shell portions (1) which, on removal of a safety pull-pin (8), separate under the action of a spring-loaded release cap (7) which additionally operates a fuze. The hand grenade, for practice, has two half-shells (1) which enclose a plastics waterproof casing (2) filled with powdered clay (3), a delay fuze (4) and explosive charge (5) and is closed by a plug (6). A cap (7) is formed with two leaf springs (7a) extending outside the casing (2) and inside part of the half-shells (1) and has affixed brackets (7b) to which are pivoted at (7c) bracket portions (1b) of the half-shells (1). A pull safety-pin (8) retains the half-shells in the positions shown. When the grenade is thrown, after removal of the pin (8), the leaf springs (7a) urge the half shells (1) outwards and simultaneously a compression spring (10) releases the cap (7) from the casing (2) and operates the fuze by means of a tearing, percussion or friction igniter (11). The leaf springs (7a) may be replaced by small helical compression springs. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 893,080.</p> |
