A vehicle headlamp consists of a front glass 12, a reflector consisting of two parts 10, 11 which are semiparaboloids of revolution with non-coincident, approximately parallel axes #X-#X, #X1-#X1 arranged with the focus F 10 of the upper part 10 further from the glass 12 than the focus F 11 of the lower part 11 and a substantially straight filament 13 co-incident with axis #X-#X and situated between the focus 10 and the glass 12 so that a line through the front end of the filament 13 and the focus F 11 will intersect the front edge of the part 11, the glass 12 having light spreading ribs with an area at the lower half of the circumference of the glass producing a different measure of transverse spread than does the more central part of the lower half adjacent to it. A second filament 30 for a long range beam may be situated at the focus F 11. The filaments may form parts of two separate tubular lamps e.g. of the type having an addition of iodine to the filling. Alternatively, the lamp may be of the " sealed beam " type.</p> |
