PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a luminescence type photomagnetic sensor for investigating a phenomenon in a magnetic semiconductor film, and utilizing the phenomenon effectively. SOLUTION: The luminescence type photomagnetic sensor includes a light source, a photomagnetic element 1 forming the magnetic semiconductor film having a photoluminescence effect, and a photodetector for measuring intensity of light from the light source amplified by the photoluminescence effect of the photomagnetic element 1. In the photomagnetic sensor, a polarizer 2 is arranged between the light source and the photomagnetic element 1, and an analyzer 3 is arranged between the photomagnetic element 1 and the photodetector so that a direction of its optical axis is different by about 90 degrees from a direction of the optical axis of the polarizer 2. The photomagnetic sensor which is excellent in S/N (signal-to-noise ratio), and can perform high-frequency magnetic field measurement is constituted by utilizing the magnetic semiconductor film showing the photoluminescence effect rather than a Faraday effect.
