<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide illumination by expression of light of a light source in a device, or expression of silhouette by the light. <P>SOLUTION: The illumination unit includes a light source, a light guide diffusion portion, a selective light transmission portion, and a selective light shielding portion. The light source may be a single one or a plurality of them. The light guide diffusion portion guides and diffuses the light of the light source. The selective light transmission portion reflects external light or suppresses passage of the external light, and transmits the light guided from the light guide diffusion portion. The selective light shielding portion selectively shields light and selectively transmits light.
