<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently transmit only the fonts of necessary characters in a file of Japanese language fonts in accordance with the bandwidth of a network and a client's performance. <P>SOLUTION: A fast font distribution system 12 includes a compression optimization engine 3 and a font selection engine 5. The fast font distribution system 12 is mounted in a server machine 10 and communicates with a font database 7. A client software 1 is mounted in a client machine 8.
